Hosting Responsibly
As a hangar owner on Hangar Direct, providing a safe, well-maintained, and clearly documented space is essential. This guide covers your key responsibilities as a host and how the platform helps you stay on top of them.
1 - Maintain Your Hangar to Safety Standards
A safe hangar starts with regular upkeep. As a host, you should:
- Inspect regularly: Check the structural integrity of doors, flooring, roofing, and any equipment. Address damage or wear before it becomes a hazard.
- Mark emergency exits: Ensure all exits are clearly marked, unobstructed, and accessible at all times.
- Maintain fire safety equipment: Keep fire extinguishers accessible, serviced, and up to date. Enforce a strict no-smoking policy inside the hangar.
- Check electrical systems: Inspect wiring and outlets regularly to prevent short circuits and fire hazards.
- Comply with local codes: Follow all local fire codes, building regulations, and airport authority requirements for hangar operations.
2 - Keep Insurance and Documents Current
Insurance is one of the most important aspects of responsible hosting. Hangar Direct requires owners to provide proof of insurance upon request. Recommended coverage includes:
- Hangar structure insurance: Protects the physical building against fire, storms, vandalism, and other damage.
- Hangarkeeper's liability insurance: Covers damage to aircraft in your care, custody, or control. This is especially important if you store aircraft for others.
- General liability insurance: Covers bodily injury or property damage claims on your premises.
If you manage multiple tenants, Hangar Direct's compliance dashboard tracks insurance status across all of them. The system flags expirations before they happen and sends automated reminders to tenants, so you do not have to chase paperwork manually.
3 - Provide Clear and Accurate Listing Information
Transparency prevents problems. Make sure your listing includes:
- Accurate dimensions (length, width, door height).
- Clear photos from multiple angles, inside and out.
- Any restrictions on operating hours, fueling, or aircraft types.
- Security features (cameras, access control, locks).
- Available amenities (electrical, climate control, restrooms, fuel).
If anything changes, update your listing right away. Outdated information leads to disputes and bad experiences for both sides.
4 - Communicate Promptly and Clearly
Good communication is the foundation of a smooth hosting experience:
- Respond to inquiries quickly. A fast reply can be the difference between securing a tenant and losing them to another hangar.
- Set clear expectations about access procedures, arrival and departure protocols, and any rules specific to your hangar.
- Use built-in messaging to keep all communication documented on the platform.
- Notify tenants of any changes to access, maintenance schedules, or other conditions that affect their stay.
5 - Security and Access Control
Protecting tenant aircraft is a core responsibility:
- Implement a secure entry system (codes, keys, or badge access) and change credentials between tenants when appropriate.
- Install security cameras in and around the hangar if possible.
- Keep all common areas well-lit.
- Screen and verify tenants before granting access. Hangar Direct's platform provides identity and booking verification to help with this.
6 - Use the Platform to Stay Organized
Hangar Direct provides tools to help you host responsibly without adding to your workload:
- Compliance dashboard: See every tenant's insurance, document, and lease status at a glance.
- Automated reminders: Tenants receive alerts when their documents are expiring, reducing the burden on your staff.
- Tenant self-service portal: Tenants upload and update their own documents, so you spend less time on administrative back-and-forth.
- Audit trail: Every action is logged, giving you a complete record for FAA reporting or internal audits.
